"How do we learn?" "What can we create?" "What does it mean to lead?"

SLA is built on the notion that inquiry is the very first step in the process of learning. Developed in partnership with The Franklin Institute and its commitment to inquiry-based science, SLA provides a vigorous, college-preparatory curriculum with a focus on science, technology, mathematics and entrepreneurship. Students at SLA learn in a project-based environment where the core values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation and reflection are emphasized in all classes.

The NAJDSC excursion to SLA will explore the 'uncommon connections' developed and nurtured by SLA through its unique educational philosophy and understanding of its own ecosystem.  SLA charts a new course exploring what it means to be a school in the 21st century and engages all stakeholders and perspectives in its system. NAJDSC excursion participants will witness first-hand a school that is engaged with its community and has designed a program that goes beyond engagement of local resources (The Franklin Institute) and conferences (EdUCon) to fully integrate these resources as an extension of the school and central to the lives of its students and their families.

Register for a tour, visit classrooms in action and talk with educators to learn and see how at SLA, learning is not just something that happens from 8:30am to 3:00pm, but a continuous process that expands beyond the four walls of the classroom into every facet of its students' lives.
